Neat Places is a little company run by two people, Marcia and Johnny, who like good coffee, local food, nice wine, a bit of shopping, the outdoors and good chat.
Neat Places is a select list of local places, events and people that have a unique point of view or a great story to tell. A neat place is anything from a lesser-known cultural gem or restaurant using local and organic produce, to a pop up craft market or clothing store selling only New Zealand made clothes.
The idea of Neat Places came about following the September 2010 earthquakes. After hearing people say there was “nowhere to go and nothing to do” in Christchurch, Marcia took matters into her own hands and set about creating a website to encourage them to re-connect with their city during its time of recovery.
Not expecting it to be anymore than a hobby, Marcia together with Johnny, have turned Neat Places into a nationwide guide that includes a website, wayfinder smartphone app and printed city guides in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Wellington. In their spare time Johnny runs a festival (Nostalgia – check it out!) and Marcia chases her eight chickens and tries not to kill yet another fruit tree.
