Penelope Macduff Jewellery
In a little place like New Zealand, it can be a tough ask to find quality accessories that are unlike everybody else’s, but help is finally at hand. Produced in Dunedin, gritty and feminine Penelope Macduff Jewellery is satisfying those who are looking for something a little different in the jewellery line to complement their wardrobe.
A surprising passion for the art started when Pene chose jewellery-making as an elective back in 2011 in first year Art School, Dunedin. Now with two collections released (Nevertheless in 2014 and Hey! in 2015) the brand is growing a strong following and doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. Resin, precious metals, sapphires and freeze-dried rose petals all feature in the range, and a friendly collaboration with local glass-blower Anne Ryan, mean the results are a true breath of fresh air to the contemporary fashion scene in New Zealand.
Finding inspiration in imperfections, as well as a real desire to ‘honour the maker’, means subtle variations are just visible in each piece, ensuring wearers walk away feeling like they really do have something unique to show off. Not an item to be tucked away under collars or hidden under sleeves, the jewellery is sure to strike up conversations and leave envious glances in your wake.
Those not content to follow mainstream fashion should check out Pene’s website or find her wares in-store at PLUME – Dunedin and Christchurch, or Angel Divine – Queenstown.
