With a name short for ‘kingfish’ and an ethos committed to sustainability, kingi is representative of a brighter future for New Zealand’s fisheries. Celebrating all things seafood, where possible, the team at kingi works with fishermen and fisherwomen who share similar values.
Located in the heart of the city, just steps from The Hotel Britomart, kingi is proud to offer fresh, locally sourced seafood, game and New Zealand produce in thoughtful, approachable ways. It is open for everything from early-morning coffee to drinks, snacks and fuller plates at night.
Although the menu is predictably delicious, two dishes jump out as must tries. These are the Mills Bay green-lipped mussels with nduja - as fresh as the ocean they come from, along with the yellow belly flounder. Sourced from Kaipara Harbour, the delicate textures of the fish are married beautifully with the flavours of almond, citrus and capers. The drinks menu centres around New Zealand and Australian wines with a scattering of international selections, a handful of elegant cocktails, New Zealand beers and the full range of daytime beverages.
The team at kingi are committed to sustainability both in and out of the kitchen. From using energy-efficient appliances and reducing food waste to selecting producers who care about the long-term viability of their products, they are always looking for ways to do better.
Hoping to inspire guests with their sustainable approaches, kingi also wants to cement itself as a go-to for locals, wonderfully located in the epicentre of downtown Auckland.
