176 Oxford Terrace, Christchurch

Sitting pretty on the banks of the Avon in central Christchurch stands a stunning terracotta building, and within it, Miro. While conveniently located within walking distance from the Art Gallery, the CBD shopping precinct, and next door to Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, Miro very much feels like a destination in itself; it is not somewhere you would stumble upon, rather, you need to know to look for it.

A sense of effortless luxury envelopes you upon entering this historical building. Once an exclusive gentlemen’s club, it’s been beautifully restored post-earthquakes with respect to the past. Original wood panelling, two open fires, coffered ceilings, and other period features within the restaurant create a sense of down-to-earth opulence that is impossible to imitate. Add to that the stunning riverside views and seamless service, and it’s fair to say that daytime dining at Miro will make you feel like royalty.

This wonderful restaurant offers a unique culinary experience not readily available outside dinner service hours in the Garden City. Miro is the perfect destination for a luxurious brunch complete with breakfast cocktails, or a long luscious lunch amongst friends. Food here is simple and approachable, yet always elegantly presented. The menu is created from the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients, and many of the items on it are cooked to perfection on the beautiful charcoal grill.

As the availability of produce fluctuates with the seasons, so does the menu at Miro. While a staple few favourites stay on both the breakfast and lunch menus, other items will vary depending on the time of the year. Many of Miro’s customers are regulars, and once you’ve had the pleasure of visiting, it’s not hard to see why: Miro is like an oasis where you will be nourished in more ways than one.
