The Riverbank Lane, 298 Victoria Street, Hamilton

One thing is for sure—only good things come out of Riverbank Lane. Those who know the area will be well aware this place has it all: a café, a bar, a hairdresser, a barber, heck—even a fried chicken shop. We love it so much, it made the cut for our round-up of New Zealand’s best hidden laneways.

So it’s safe to say when Café Kopi found a home in this community, we were pretty stoked. The vibe of this little caffeine haven is pretty chic, to say the least. You’ll find sky-high concrete walls adorned with exposed copper pipes, flanked by dramatic floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Complemented by warm wooden panelling and dappled sunlight on a good day, there’s no better place to while away the afternoon.

On the coffee front, it’s only the best for the punters at Café Kopi. Locally roasted Rocket Coffee is at the ready for all your flat white, latte or espresso needs. If you’re lucky, you might even score some magical latte art on your brew. And yes, it’s definitely worth a post on the ‘Gram.

When it comes to the food, the fare is simple, seasonal and most of all, damn delicious. Our first stop is the specials board, where you’ll find a choice of all the latest and tastiest dishes on offer. Think warming soups, top-notch toast and melt-in-your-mouth meats.

The cabinet will satisfy your snack tooth with a curated selection of sweet slices and cakes ready to devour. Whether you’re a die-hard carrot cake fan or swing more experimental with the lemon and olive oil loaf, you’re well and truly covered.

Once you’ve indulged in a bite to eat, we suggest perusing the rest of Riverbank Lane. Head to Browsers for second-hand books or discover stylish homewares and clothing at FOUND.
