Appropriately named after the glorious blue waters of Lake Tekapo, Blue Lake Eatery & Bar is situated in the heart of the lakeside township.

Boasting a menu that’s heavily influenced by the seasons and local produce - and with a French twist on Kiwi classics. Think beef cheeks marinated in red wine or hot goat cheese salad with local Mackenzie honey. The kitchen creates everything possible from scratch, and the bread, sauces, stock and chowder are all made on site, a point of pride for this South Canterbury restaurant.

To take things even further, the restaurant is also home to local microbrewery Burkes Brewing Co. The award winning beers (its Unforgiven Porter took home the #1 prize at New Zealand Brewers Guild awards in 2021) are found here on tap along with a number of other great New Zealand craft brews.  Tasting flights of Burkes Brewing Co’s beers are available as well.

It’s not all about beer and good food at Blue Lake Eatery & Bar, as it showcases a huge variety of New Zealand wines from different regions across the country too. Their aim is to support small, independent wine producers and introduce people to wonderful less-known drops.

While we’re talking about drinks, there’s a special margarita that comes out of the bar at Blue Lake that might just be a perfect finish for an evening out: the Blue Lake coconut margarita.
