Just like any good park ranger, hello RANGER is the heart of its Wānaka community, there to take care of adventurous people before and after their journeys.

In the nature of friendly neighbourhood bars and cafés, hello RANGER feels like an extension of your own home – albeit with a few more hanging plants, tables and chairs. The gabled porch entrance leads you into a light, warm, space with white brick walls and slender black trusses. Pools of natural light from skylights punctuate the timber-panelled ceiling, and elegant black steel and timber shelves line the walls, housing more potted plants.

One of hello RANGER’s best assets is its plentiful outdoor seating; the location is such that you have the ability to be outside, soaking in the southern sun from morning through to the evening, whilst enjoying the company of friends. It’s worth noting that friends, both canine and bipedal, are welcome here.

With the Clutha River, outlet, Sticky Forest and multiple walking tracks in the immediate vicinity, this is the area that locals frequent to get a dose of nature and do some exercise. As hello RANGER is the closest place to all of that activity, looking after locals is their primary focus. They offer a casual Kiwi dining experience with a morning and evening menu, a selection of all-day eats, and local beers on tap.

hello RANGER keeps the community well-fed and caffeinated, ready to go out and play on – or recover from – some of the best trails and river spots in Wānaka. It’s the go-to for some quality time with your friends and family (or dog).
