First it was smoothie bowls, then acai bowls, then buddha bowls - the list goes on. If it’s in a bowl and arranged beautifully, we love it. Better still if the bowl adds a burst of healthy goodness to your daily diet. Grain bowls are the next big thing in bowl food dreams.

Lux Espresso’s grain bowl is designed for the health conscious foodie on the go. Ready-made in biodegradable Innocent Packaging bowls, the Nourish Bowl ($14.50) is made of ingredients such as black or red rice, roasted vegetables (think mushrooms, pumpkin, cauliflower and the like), avocado, rocket, a soft boiled egg, carrot & tomato topped with a dressing, such as miso & ginger. These bowls are always gluten and dairy free, and offer a well-rounded meal that will make you feel, as the name suggests, nourished.

Know for its experimental and ever-changing menus, Southside Social always keeps things interesting. There’s no exception with its grain bowl offering. The current menu boasts the Southside Bowl ($20) made up of either salmon or tofu, accompanied with rice, baby spinach and pickled & fresh vegetables, all topped with sesame miso dressing. If you are vegan, fear not, as the dressing is easily substituted with vegan mayonnaise, making this a hearty bowl of plant based goodness.
