Hamilton East

Looking down Lovegrove Lane, Hamilton.

For a city that prides itself on sport and agriculture, Hamilton East is injecting a much welcomed dose of creative flair to the Waikato region, where locally owned and operated ice cream and fried chicken joints lie opposite vintage shops, and down a converted alleyway you’ll find anything from yoga to a framing store to a modern day grocers.

A young and enthusiastic atmosphere makes this suburb a bubbly addition to centre town located just over the bridge. Known affectionately as ‘Irishtown’ in the mid 20th Century due to the high number of Irish inhabitants, Hamilton East now welcomes visitors from all around the globe, and most notably to the stunning Hamilton Gardens that sees about 1.3 million people through its gates every year.
