A mainstay of the Auckland hospitality scene, despite many Asian eateries in the big smoke coming and going, Monsoon Poon has stood the test of time, serving up South-East Asian food for near on 10 years.

Located in one of Auckland’s art deco buildings, once inside the restaurant you’d be hard pressed to believe that just outside is a busy stretch of urban road. Inside it’s all Asian paradise – a tropical oasis where plants and bright coloured lights combine with Asian fabrics draped from the ceilings and an eclectic mix of interior décor you’d expect to find in Asian street markets and resorts alike.

The open kitchen adds yet more vibrancy and energy to an already highly charged environment. Combine the excitement of feeling like you’re some place exotic with an impressive drinks list (cocktails are the real hero here) and an extensive and impressive food offering and you’re guaranteed a night of fun. Setting itself apart from other Asian eateries, Monsoon Poon offers cuisine from not one Asian country but many. They’ve got Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, South China, the Philippines and Indonesia covered. That’s a lot of ground to traverse without the need for uncomfortable seats and aeroplane food!
