Situated in Parnell’s industrial quarter, Red Rabbit’s Faraday Street outpost is where the locals come for their caffeine hit. Their roots were once upon a time established in Wellington and have since found a home in Parnell, to the delight of Auckland coffee aficionados.
The expectation here is simple; damn good single-origin coffee served the way it’s meant to be. Founder and head roaster Steve Barrett is as passionate as they come about getting the good stuff in your cup. He sources beans from the best ethical artisan suppliers in the world and expertly roasts them, resulting in coffee a cut above the rest.
If you’re wanting to nerd out on the beans, simply get chatting with one of the staff or peep their website. You’ll find details right down to the producer, the drying process and the flavour notes. We’re talking espresso-style blends with hints of black cherry from Ethiopia and even a delicious decaf number from Colombia. This cuppa is as good as they get.
Home to both a coffee bar and roastery, the café plays into the rustic vibe of the neighbourhood, with a warehouse roller door, exposed brick walls and high open ceilings. Whether it’s a weekday meeting or a lazy Sunday caffeine hit, it’s the perfect spot to pull up and while away the day.
On a regular weekday, you can pick up a stuffed sandwich to devour alongside your long black, or hit the spot with their coveted Leeds Street caramel cookies. They also host regular pop-ups on rotation at the venue, from local food trucks to burgers and brews. There’s always something going down at Red Rabbit.
What’s more, the good times don’t end there. You can pick up a bag of beans, or some coffee equipment and take a slice of Red Rabbit home with you.
