When did Rad ever leave Auckland? Who knows, but it is back to stay. Resting comfortably in the shadow of the mighty volcanic cone, TROR is one of the first eating joints to greet you as you enter the Mt Eden strip from the city. Small, cosy, warm and with wooden kitset table-benches and stools outside, Rad keep things light.

Dropping by for lunch seems to be what most Edenites do on any given weekday. Now the lunch menu is not big but makes up for it with flavour. Vietnamese cuisine permeates the menu and the pork Bàhn mí is a heavenly soft bun with a wallop of succulent pork dragged through the tangy-godsend that is the marinade. This alone was worth the trip. Some truly wonderful cake slices adorn the front cabinet, with mouth-watering aplomb, and make for great sharing, since they’re so big and moist. A grand way to round off a meal.

Coffee, smoothies, salads and the pork sandwich sensation all come highly recommended by local residents.
