At Junk & Disorderly you’ll find over 12,000 square feet of treasure. And very little of the treasure gives off the impression of being junk. It’s one of the best-curated collections of second hand and vintage wares that you’ll ever have the good fortune of stumbling upon. ‘Junk’ is an understatement for the quality that is on offer at this Northcote shop, although certainly the ‘one man’s junk, another man’s treasure’ mantra is true here.

Disorderly the place might seem, since there quite literally is stuff everywhere – in every nook and cranny, occupying every spare centimeter of all 12,000 square feet, there is some sense of method to the madness. Impressively curated collections and beautiful displays, whether they be of kitchenware or vintage fashion, give some semblance of order to working your way through what is a daunting yet tempting amount of treasure. You won’t leave empty handed.

Junk & Disorderly has been a mainstay on the Auckland second hand and vintage shopping scene for some time. It was opened in a very small shop in Northcote Point in 1991, and after five relocations it now calls the Kawana Street premises home.

You’ll find an eclectic mix of old and unusual items, and plenty of new things as well – the point of the new being to show that it’s perfectly fine to mix things to create your own eclectic style. The stock varies from week to week, so you’d be foolish to expect to find the teapot you love the next time you visit. But best of all, Junk & Disorderly is very much a family affair, owned and operated by locals, which alone makes it a shop well worthy of a visit.
