On the corner of Walker Street and Montreal, you’ll find Ally & Sid, a breezy spot for excellent coffee, tasty cabinet fare and a big side of sunshine. Housed in an old rubber moulding factory Ally & Sid marries antique industrial details with plenty of greenery, a pinky orange colour scheme, spacious wooden tables, big windows and a garage door that lets the outdoors in when it’s nice out.

Samuel and Aimee Nimmo knew that they always wanted to open a cafe and their passion for top quality yet approachable coffee is apparent. The two keep things running day to day and after seven years on the Christchurch hospitality scene, Samuel really knows coffee. With that the couple have created the kind of cafe where novice coffee drinkers can happily order their go-to again and again or branch out if they’d like to. Meanwhile, seasoned enthusiasts will delight in Ally & Sid’s speciality offerings like 18 and 24 hour cold brews and the rotating single origin beans used for filter coffee.

As Samuel says “there are no coffee snobs here” just delicious cups of the stuff brewed with quality beans and Ally & Sid’s exclusive Embassy blend. His favourite day at Ally & Sid? When he sees regulars start to ask questions, try new brews and begin a coffee journey of their own This spot truly offers one of the most down to Earth coffee education you’re likely to find.

In the cabinet you’ll find beautiful sandwiches, slices, cookies, brownies, doughnuts, danishes, bagels, croissants and more. All sandwiches are made on site and offer seasonal fillings with a fresh bite. Samuel and Aimme know that great coffee deserves a great snack and they source all cabinet food exclusively from other local Christchurch businesses like Grizzly. A bear claw or almond croissant from the case pair perfectly with an Ally & Sid cold brew on a hot day or a long black on a cold one.

Everything about Ally & Sid is inviting, just like the people who created it. Come in Monday to Saturday for a coffee catch up with friends or snag a quick takeaway if you’re in a rush. You can even bring your dog. Regardless of how much time you have, a visit to Ally & Sid is sure to cheer you with a friendly atmosphere and quality caffeine kick. Keep an eye out for an expanding menu, live music and other events here.
