Perched above the harbour in picturesque Lyttelton, Fisherman’s Wharf provides its patrons with the freshest fish in town and hard-to-beat-views. One of the longest running restaurants in the seaside town, this is an iconic and authentic spot, charming with its nautical non-pretentiousness and hearty kai.

As the name suggests, seafood is the star of the show here. Chow down on everything from fish to prawns to Bluff oysters and paua. Fisherman’s Wharf has its own trawler, which provides most of the fish used in the kitchen, guaranteeing the quickest possible boat to plate route. Freshness is the key to everything here with all kitchen essentials made onsite from scratch - you won’t beat their tartare sauce.

Supporting other locals is important to Fisherman’s Wharf owner PJ Gemmell, who buys fresh produce from Lyttelton Farmers Market on Saturday mornings and hires local youth, teaching them all the ropes of working in a restaurant. You can always expect friendly service, a warm atmosphere and a few laughs when dining at Fisherman’s Wharf.

Bring a fellow seafood-lover, find a seat on the deck overlooking the harbour, or along the windows inside. This is a classic spot you can’t afford to miss.
