Situated in a beautifully restored 1920s heritage building overlooking Victoria Square, Permit Room is no ordinary Indian restaurant. This elegant eatery and bar offers authentic South Indian cuisine with a colonial-style theme, transporting visitors to a time of prohibition in 1940s India.

Dimly lit in the evenings and offering beautiful views across to the recently restored square, Permit Room is the perfect setting for a romantic dinner or a group gathering. Dark wood, marble tabletops and beautiful lighting create a wonderful atmosphere. During the day the large windows let in lots of light – watch the tram rolling past while enjoying a peaceful and tasty retreat from a busy day.

The food here is full of richness and flavour in true authentic South Indian manner. The chefs hand-grind all of the spices for the dishes in-house and only the best, fresh ingredients from local producers are used. The menu is compact, with each dish on it having gone through a careful selection process, created with utmost passion by the experienced chefs. Dishes can easily be shared and for larger groups there is a banquet option.

Bring your favourite dining partner and treat them, or gather a group of friends or colleagues for a shared meal. The mezzanine overlooking the square has space for 50, and could be just the ticket for that next function - drinks, nibbles, anyone? We guarantee it will be a unique experience.
