Supreme Supreme is currently closed for renovations. Re-opening in 2019!

The return of Coffee Supreme in permanent Christchurch digs has been a long time coming. But the wait has been entirely worth it. Supreme Supreme, a café, coffee training school and wholesale venue housed on Welles Street is truly supreme.

Here, the attention to detail is enviably impeccable. A quality venue, housed in a building with a long and illustrious history, the Welles Street building has in previous lives been the city’s Land Rover dealership and the Hop Yick Asian Food Warehouse. Although the space has been transformed into one that is utterly stylish, it’s certainly informed by what it has been in the past: the old roller doors of the Land Rover dealership remain and so too does some of Hop Yick’s front window signage. A space that has always been a hive of activity, Supreme Supreme carries on the tradition without fault.

It’s a slick and clean space – mostly white with touches of blue-grey and red. There’s a suggestion of a refined retro American diner, but equally as much suggestion of a venue that wouldn’t look out of place internationally: there’s a strong nod to Scandinavian design. The attention to detail elevates the venue to something quite extraordinary - from specially hand-crafted white and pale wood chairs and beautiful grey-blue seat cushions to the ‘Double Happy’ illuminated word art installation. The café’s colour palate of white, blue-grey and red is spot on.

As one could only expect from a Coffee Supreme café, the coffee is sublime. With a liquor license, sparkling water on tap and Six Barrel Soda for non-coffee drinkers there is plenty to quench the thirst. The food is a stand out – there’s a focus on local and seasonal produce, and an emphasis on packing the menu with house made products – jams, hand churned butter served in small glass jars and homemade sauces (including a Hop Yick Hot Sauce). All of the homemade products are available for purchase to take home. Breakfast and lunch offerings are simple, but perfectly executed and presented. Quality prevails, and it will every time you visit.
