Intimate dining is redefined at this aptly named locale with an impressive wine catalogue and ingredients sourced nearly solely from Banks Peninsula.

While French in character, The Little Bistro is a truly local affair - the walls are even painted in Dulux’s ‘Lyttelton Grey’.

True to its name, the close dining quarters are cosy - with diners often getting to know those at the tables surrounding them and wait staff deftly navigating the single room to deliver artistically presented plates.

Each dish is a colourful display of the bounty of ingredients available nearby, including Canterbury saffron, fresh pink salmon and - a nod to owner and chef Richard’s British roots - rich green organic mushy peas.

A shelf around the back of the room boasts local wines, a who’s who of great Canterbury grapes. Many hail exclusively from the wine library of Pegasus Bay, while others from smaller ventures like Straight 8 Estate and a whole page of the list dedicated to champagne and bubbles.

Richard, spends his winters trialing new dishes and cooking styles for the locals, presenting them (with glowing reviews) to peak season diners. Open only for dinner services, it is no wonder bookings here are essential.
