If you ever needed an excuse to visit the city’s favourite seaside destination, a freshly hatched lifestyle store co.locale will gladly oblige. This carefully curated boutique is a refreshing addition to the retail offerings of Sumner. It imports effortless style, earthy tones and a warm sea breeze from across the ditch – the majority of stock makes its way here from sun-drenched hub-of-cool, Byron Bay, with pieces from as far as LA.

co.locale was born from owner-operator Sarah Harrison’s passion for the timeless, understated style she fell in love with while living in Australia. Sarah hand picks each piece for her store and orders minimal quantities to keep things nice and unique. Most of the brands are exclusive to co.locale and not stocked anywhere else in New Zealand.

Located at a characterful street-level retail space within a charming old villa (which for many years operated as an art gallery), co.locale is one of those beautifully presented shops that draw passers by in with its mere presence. Just stepping through the door is a treat in itself.

Inside you’ll find understated quality fashion pieces from brands like Opia, Ochre + Earth, Kinney, The Bare Road, delicious chunky knits by First Born Knits (handmade in Argentina) and swimwear by Fella Swim. The little ones have been kept in mind as well, with an entire rack of Children of the Tribe waiting for tiny fashion lovers.

On the lifestyle side of things, find wellness products by BEAR Ltd, therapeutic scents by Bodha, cushions and surfboard bags by Pony Rider and Sunday Supply Co. beach umbrellas. Interesting jewellery by Elvis et Moi and trendy Fallen Broken Street felt hats complete that timeless outfit.

This petite boutique is an exciting destination for conscientious consumers. What you carry home from co.locale is sure to become a long lasting wardrobe staple.
