You’ll find Frederick Woodwards Barber Shop, located within the old government building just behind local food and drink hotspot, OGB. This unique venue pays homage to Woodward & Co. a barber shop that existed in Cathedral Square way back in 1914. The original barber, Frederick, kept the gentlemen of Christchurch looking sharp with a cut, shave and shampoo combo that rang in at just one shilling. While the prices have changed, the barbering traditions and old school commitment to quality of service remain very much intact.

As soon as you enter this shop, the vintage decor, antique barbering chairs and top notch team will not only make you feel welcome but will also make you feel transported back in time. Let your modern worries fall away and put yourselves in the hands of Woodward’s team who specialise in just about every area of hair and beard styling.

The services menu is complete with everything from executive cuts to Dad & Lad cuts to style cuts and student cuts. While you’re here you can also get a wash and restyle, a beard trim/shape, a razor finish or a straight razor shave.

Woodward’s speciality, hot shaves, are done the old fashioned way with a bit of patience and understated luxury. A hot, infused towel is applied for several minutes before the shave which both relaxes and prepares the skin for the closest, most professional shave you’re likely to find here in Christchurch.

So choose your service, sit back, order a drink and enjoy. Yes, you read that right - Woodwards is a licensed barber. Enjoy your favourite beverage as you sit in the barber chair. Woodwards even sells Cuban products to round out the unique and comprehensive vintage barbering experience they offer. Finally, you can purchase many of the hair and beard products the team uses for your home regimen.

If you or someone you know happens to be tying the knot, check out Woodward’s Groomsmen packages which take the admin out of the big day and kick it off with a memorable barber trip for the boys.

Whether you’re after a new style, a close shave, a tune up trim or simply need to relax and get away, head to Woodwards for a barbering experience like no other.
