NEW NEW NEW’s Fermented Beverage Division can be found on Crawford Street within an 1860s horse drawn tram stable. The corporation’s mission? To establish the ‘return of consumer innocence and easy good times’.  To do this NEW NEW NEW takes on the funky yet lovable persona of a 1980’s mega evil corporation but remains, at their core, a craft brewery with a commitment to delicious beer and reshaping the industry they care so much about.

Step inside NEW NEW NEW and you’ll be blown away by the unique fit out almost immediately. The heritage space’s exposed brick, steel beams and spacious structure are very much on display, while NEW NEW NEW’s retro and super bright visual identity is expertly incorporated. Buzzy, colourful lighting highlights the operational brewery and its state of the art HEBS kit (high efficiency brewing system), which uses a mash filter. It’s the only one of its kind in New Zealand. Chat to any of the friendly staff members to learn more about what this innovative system can do.

Even the taps are bespoke. Rather than your classic tap medallions, NEW NEW NEW has a digital menu that looks like it came straight from the mall arcade in Stranger Things. On the screen you’ll find each pour listed with its corresponding animated artwork, tasting notes and ABV. Favourites include the Synaptic Voyage a punchy sour constructed with Thai lime and lemongrass, Ume Ume an autumnal ale made with Japanese plum and honey notes and NEW NEW NEW’s hard sparkling range which boasts flavours like lemon & clementine, peach & ginger and a raspberry, blackberry, elderberry number.

A lot of breweries claim to be experimental but NEW NEW NEW authentically pushes the boundaries. Check out the fridge for even more of their creations. If you appreciate dark beer, the smoked eel stout (their only non-vegan beer) is smokey and deep with hints of NZ conger eel. It's a polarizing pour, yes, but some folks absolutely love it. The Pepper Pepper Pepper chilli pilsner, meanwhile, is defined by crisp capsicum on the nose and a touch of heat. Whether you're new to beer or simply can't get enough when it comes to unique crafties - NEW NEW NEW has something for you.

NEW NEW NEW doesn’t stop there though, the brewery’s food offering, Yum Cat Diner, more than holds its own. The ever-evolving menu offers a mashup of Asian street food and American diner fare for combinations that are tasty, comforting and go great with a beer (of course).

Yum Cat’s smash burger is an ode to the true American style burger. It's got a double patty, soft pillowy bun and run-down-your-arms kind of juice. The San Choy Bau is refreshingly delicious and features Chinese lettuce cups filled with pork and prawn mince, daikon, carrot, a tamari based sauce, peanut, spring onion and chilli. The fries, jalapeno cheese poppers and fried chicken pieces all make excellent nibbles, too.
