The Rez de Chaussee café is a hidden gem in downtown Dunedin. Located in the Robbie Burns car park, just off George Street, it can be easily missed so look for a brightly painted blue door and walk down the narrow corridor to find this quirky basement café. You’ll also stumble across a beautiful courtyard out front, perfect on a sunny day.
Inside the colourful space, the walls are covered floor to ceiling with artworks by local artists (yes, they’re for sale!), and the many vintage chairs and tables allow for large group interactions or small private conversations.
Menu-wise, the Rez de Chaussee (aka RDC) boasts their own home roasted espresso, Fat Cat Coffee and their daily baked goods, featuring the likes of lemon meringue pie and peanut butter cups (their vegan cakes are unbeatable).
For a café with great atmosphere in a very unique location, be sure to check out the charming Rez de Chaussee.
