When it hits coffee hour and you’re feeling desperate, you need to know a consistent cup of espresso you can turn to. SL28 has a meticulous focus on the coffee. Doing this one thing well is the centre of all their operations, and they measure and time the espresso process to make each cup the same. An offshoot of the Rocket Roaster, the cafe has been serving caffeinated beverages to a loyal following since 2015. Filter batch brews are available as well as a range of Fine & Dandy tea, and coffee brewing equipment on sale.

Food is simple but delicious: croissants, toasties, quesadillas, muesli, donuts, banana bread, using local Meyer Gouda cheese, ice cream from Duck Island, and ham and salami from Wholly Cow butchery on Grey Street.

You’ll find this establishment in the Old Riverbank Mall on Victoria Street, a beautiful, high ceiling space shared with Browsers Book Store and Fox Kennedy Barbers, a recently formed community hub of owner operator businesses where books, haircuts and caffeine compliment each other nicely. The cafe has beautifully arranged private window booths and a larger shared table in the main area making the most of the building’s striking architecture which will leave you looking up in wonder.
