Nestled on the main street of Kurow in what was once the local post office building, Vintners Drop is the cellar door of boutique winery Ostler Vineyards.
Boasting a range of cool climate wines including Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling, the wine is famously “38 million years in the making” thanks to the limestone-based soils in which the grapes are grown. The Ostler vineyard itself sits in the huge area outside of Aoraki Mount Cook where it gets all of the glacial sediment and runoff that makes the soil so ideal for growing, and ultimately makes the wine as incredible as it is in the end.
A relaxed and inviting environment, guests can enjoy tasting sessions along with a bite to eat, suitable for individuals and small group events alike. Crowd favourites include the Lakeside Pinot Gris, Waitaki Gewürztraminer and Waitaki Riesling, with many other popular drops on offer to suit every taste.
If you’re in the mood for a snack to accompany your beverage of choice, Vintners Drop is serving some delightful little numbers like the cheese board, bruschetta and pizza bread, with gluten-free options available.
It’s a small and cosy interior, easily accessed by cyclists and walkers looking to rest their weary legs and soak up the local culture. If you’re entertaining at home or in a hurry, wines are also available by the bottle.
