If you’ve always thought people in crepe stalls had an uncanny knack for making the creation of these sweet treats look easy, then you’d be right. According to Adrien, ‘Happiness Manager’ of Charlie Brown, it can take some weeks to learn the craft and then some months to truly master it. A visit to this mint green food caravan won’t take long to convince you that you’re in expert territory though, with sweet crepes and savoury galettes made right before your eyes and handed out the window within minutes. The caravan itself started life in France, so if it’s authenticity you’re after, then you’re in the right place.
Adrien admits the crepe makers are tested by French customers sometimes, who come to see if the crepes are as genuine as the ones from back home, but thanks to a carefully guarded recipe passed down from a French crepe master some years ago, these customers generally walk away well impressed.
The savoury galettes are perfect for gluten free eaters, as they’re made from buckwheat flour, otherwise sweet toppings can be added instead for the best of both worlds. Choose from classic ham and cheese, crowd favourite banana, walnut, caramel sauce and cream, or something from the seasonal specials menu that changes throughout the year. After plenty of vegans started stopping by, Charlie Brown now offers a ‘make it yourself’ menu, where hungry visitors can choose from an array of spreads, fruits or savoury fillings and rest easy in the knowledge they know exactly what they’re getting.
Open 8:30am to 9:30pm every day, means there’s never a wrong time to enjoy something from Charlie Brown.
