With an impressive inventory of international experience, including working at Marco Pierre White, London’s L’Escargot and The Lennon Room in NYC (no biggie), you can bet your bottom dollar that Leungo Lippe’s work stories make for some pretty bangin’ world-class dishes in his own Wanaka-based kitchen. Well-known in the region for opening BoaBoa and Botswana Butchery, Lipsky and Sons is a continuation of Lippe’s exciting culinary adventure in the region.

In a refined yet comfortable dwelling on Mountain View Road, the many nooks of Lipsky and Sons provide groups of sizes and significance to pick and choose from an array of dining experiences – whether coming fresh off the mountain or celebrating a wedding anniversary.

From lunch until dinner, the glamorous main dining room invites diners to enjoy an eclectic menu specialising in raw seafood and premium cuts. Classical fine flavours and techniques are married with local ingredients to create a world-class experience that still celebrates the wonders of Wanaka’s land and water. Shoot oysters from the Raw Bar (the only one of its kind in town), carve into something meaty and mighty from the grill and share decadent fare like Juniper crusted venison Denver leg.

After something a little more personalized? A lush private room awaits out back, with space for up to ten people, a tailored menu, your own dedicated waitstaff – and a chandelier. Mind you, it’s the royal treatment without any of the pretension.

Through the next door, an outdoor courtyard divides the bar and restaurant and promises days well spent lounging in the sun or defrosting your toes around a crackling fire. If it’s drinks you’re after, you’ll want to continue on through to the cosy bar. The snug setting accommodates lively groups and smaller intimate conversations with wooden leaners to gather around and small booths to sneak into. The wink of a champagne trolley doing the rounds will tell you all you need to know about the quality being poured in this room. Discover Central Otago Wines and other unexpected varieties, seven local and international tap beers and a huge selection of spirits. Pair your tipple with shared plates, and specialty selections from the Raw Oyster and Charcuterie Bar.

Through delightfully unconventional plates of food, Leungo tells personal tales inspired by his German-heritage and favourite culinary moments to date. And quite frankly, it’s a story we can’t put down – nor our spoon.
