If you thought you’d seen all there is to see when it comes to florists then a visit to The Green Room will quickly change your mind. A smart, fresh and colourful botanical store, this is the place to come if your lounge room needs some pimping out with plants, or you owe a big bouquet of thanks to someone special. Owner/operator Rachel Benton is no stranger to creative flair mixed with some hard work and dedication — a chef and winemaker before she became a florist, she reckons flowers aren’t so different from beautiful food and drink, after all, all three need care and attention to detail.

The team here offer wedding and custom-made bouquets, potted plants, flower advice and even seasonal floral arranging workshops. (If you’re interested in donating your bouquet post-wedding then The Green Room is happy to pass it on to the local kindy or rest home too). Live out of town? Buy a floral box online and have it delivered to your door, or go with the latest trend of dried flowers (move over potpourri, we’re talking beautiful garlands of wildflower bunches here).

Clearly passionate about her oasis of a store, Rachel has only good things to say about the local growers she sources her flowers from, and in a model that promotes sustainability and close working relationships, The Green Room will always accept whichever stunning flora the growers are growing at the time. That means minimal waste and no pressure to conform to a single style.

We love to sit down. But it wasn’t until we plonked ourselves on a Wilson & Dorset Shaggy Bean Bag and lounged on their sheepskin rugs that we realised just how good putting one’s feet up could be. What a revelation.
