Moore Wilson’s Chook Wagon has you covered for spontaneous picnics or a desultory dinner at home. The wagon itself is a replica 1947 Citroen truck that is quite literally groovy. Built locally in Miramar by prop-makers Human Dynamo, it’s been kitted out with specially-imported ovens with enough grunt to cook 48 chickens every 90 minutes.

Known to most as a ‘spit roast’, Rotisserie (Fr. rôtir – to roast) is old-style slow cooking that’s stood the test of time for the benefit of being able to cook without drying. It’s all in the rotation, which locks in those tasty cooking juices as direct heat keeps things well-done on the outside.

They serve lunch daily from 11am to 2pm and includes free-range Rangitikei chicken meals, burgers and salads. A range of seasonal salads and sides are available all day long including gratin, eggplant parmigiana and gravy which you can heat up at home, as well as seasonal fruit crumbles and puddings for something sweet. Fresh bread, crisp greens and fancy condiments can be found in abundance just one floor below at Moore Wilson’s Fresh.
