From the duo that brought Wellington The Ramen Shop and Hillside Kitchen, Cult Wine was born. Nestled in the streets of Thorndon, Cult Wine was established out of a desire to showcase highly sought after, yet difficult to come by wines.

A specialist wine merchant that offers a selection of interesting and unusual wines, let’s just say you won’t find Lindauer here. “Cult Wine arose out of discovering huge demand for some of the most exciting, grower-made wines Hillside champions: wines with character, personality and integrity”.

They offer a large selection of natural wines, which are becoming increasingly popular throughout Wellington. Natural wines are marked with an ‘N’ throughout the shop so they are easily distinguishable. Some of the wines are also categorized with short descriptions that make it clear what you are getting yourself in for, for example: Hardcore, Classic, Everyday, MindF**k Alert, Smashable and Future Classic.

There is a monthly subscription service, ‘Wine Club’ which offers five variations ranging between $100 – $180. The subscription is tailored to individual flavour preferences. A selection of their wines are available for purchase online as well, including the orange wine which is well worth a try.

On Friday Cult Wine run complimentary tastings as an opportunity for people to experiment with wine varieties they wouldn’t normally choose; the perfect chance to drag your workmates down the road at 4pm to try something new.

If you’re looking for a wine that’s out of the ordinary, the perfect gift for that person in your life who has everything or you just want to have a yarn with some knowledgeable guys and learn more about wine, Cult Wine is the place to go.
