There’s something special about eating at a place that serves up as much kindness as it does kai, and Filo certainly champions both. Donating proceeds from the sales of their brownie boxes to non-profit organisation Heart Parcels (who serve hot, healthy meals to those living on the streets in Wellington), means this is a collaboration well worth supporting. The idea came about after co-owner Parris started seeing the cruel realities of homelessness during her time working in the CBD, and after a bit of brainstorming, came up with the plan to sell food to enable her to gift food, and so Filo was born.

Now the popular eatery in Porirua dishes out plenty of hot meals from brunch through to dinnertime, and if you’re wondering if there’s actually filo on the menu, you are in for one heck of a treat. Stuffed full with your choice of smoked fish, chicken and apricot, banana rum pulled pork, chicken and mushroom or three different vegan/vegetarian styles (to name but a few!) these are filos that mean business. Top it off with two salad choices and you have yourself one very hearty meal that’s set to fuel you through the rest of your day.

Dessert choices are aplenty too, the aforementioned brownies are a crowd favourite, but otherwise there’s yum things like banoffee pie, sticky date pudding, cheesecake and vegan chia pudding. Feeling frazzled with the amount of delicious options? Gather a group of mates and come along to one of Filo’s ‘dessert nights’ where sharing is the name of the game.
