Nestled in the depths of Egmont Street you’ll come across Scout, a boutique hairdresser with a lot of heart and soul. Walking through the doors you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into a scene of one of Wes Anderson’s epic indie films (the space itself is loosely based on the whimsical themes of Moonrise Kingdom). Just like Wes Anderson himself, a master of visual storytelling, Scout has a unique style.

The semi-retro fitout has been designed by Matt Smith, from Common Goods and Annabel Kinley, owner and operator. Thanks to her efforts to make it a relaxing and friendly salon environment, Scout is a down-to-earth place to have a chop, trim or colour.

With only two staff ever working at one time, you’ll always get attentive service and great chat (not something you often get in large salons). Expect all the usual cut and colour services here, but with the salon constantly booked up, it’s clearly a testament to their skills and ability to offer an amazing customer experience.

Their devotion to sustainability is a big part of their charm. Scout recycles their tin foil, composts all the chopped hair, use ethically conscious haircare range Davines and even work closely with the Sustainable Business Network.
