Located in the creative neighbourhood of Newtown lies The Axe, a beautifully curated furniture and homeware store with a twist. The Axe is the second store opened by Meg Domett, with Stacks Furniture right next door being her first love. It was the size restrictions of Stacks that pushed Meg to open The Axe, the concept of which was born out of Meg’s desire to have a space to house gifts and homewares, as well as beautiful contemporary furniture.

Described as “Beautiful – Fun – Affordable”, The Axe stocks carefully selected classic, timeless pieces that you wouldn’t otherwise see in a chain homewares store. From reading glasses to notebooks and candles, there’s something for everyone to fall in love with.

The Axe also stocks the well-known Wellington coffee brand Rich Coffee, which is brewed just up the road, and their lovely blooms are from Bella Bloom Florist in Wellington. The store also places a heavy emphasis on fair trade, importing products such as their Nkuku antique copper frames, which are produced by artisans in India and Maraetai solid oak dining tables.

The name of the store reflects its aesthetic; timeless, simple, useful and inexpensive.
