Earl brings a breath of European bistro culture to central Christchurch. Perched across the road from Rauora Park in the heart of the East Frame, the restaurant sits amidst a hive of activity within a mixed-use building. Open for lunch and dinner, Earl is the go-to local for inner-city residents and workers.
The menu here is crafted from the best ingredients on offer, it’s simple food done well and executed beautifully. An open plan kitchen gives diners the possibility to observe the creation of their order while breaking down barriers between front and back of house. There’s also ample space in front of the bar, perfect for those of us who enjoy watching the drinks being poured.
A tight, yet carefully considered rotating selection of both local and international wines sits within a butler’s sink. Expect to find a number of options unavailable elsewhere, along with a unique weekly changing full range offering from varying local vineyards.
The atmosphere at Earl is casual, warm and friendly with a subtle touch of elegance. Fitted out with light wood and natural materials with dots of blue here and there, it’s easy to see that every detail has been thought of in order to create a comfortable space where customers can feel right at home.
