Family-owned Craggy Range is situated mere moments from Havelock North, nestled between the Tukituki River and the majestic hillside of Te Mata Peak. It is home to not just a globally celebrated winery, but also a quality restaurant, which was crowned ‘Winery Restaurant of the Year’ in the 2022 Cuisine Good Food Awards.

Established back in 1998 by the Peabody family, the restaurant came about by Mary and her daughter, Mary-Jeanne, who were both passionate about leaving a legacy for future generations. With this in mind, the mother-daughter duo cooked up an elaborate meal for husband/father, Terry Peabody, and over a glass of wine (or more!) persuaded him to invest in their restaurant dream.

Over the years, the team at Craggy Range Restaurant has spent years experimenting, changing and refining their restaurant dream, wanting to create an approachable space for people to enjoy wine and food, and somewhere for them to keenly return to time and time again. To that end, Craggy Range Restaurant is relaxed and intimate, and simply always delivers on the plate.

Fortunate to be located in what is widely regarded as the fruit bowl of New Zealand, the menu is regionally inspired and able to be guided by the seasons. This is mostly thanks to the 800㎡ on-site kitchen garden which is the source of many of the diverse herbs, fruits and vegetables gracing the menu. Growing and harvesting is a full time job, and the grounds staff and kitchen teams collaborate closely together, planning for the many seasons ahead.

This garden-to-table ethos is complemented by a roster of brilliant artisans a stone’s throw away from their backyard. Sustainably caught local fish, served lightly cured, with bursts of uplifting citrus and herbs, is always a huge hit and continues to be a staple dish. The Craggy Range Restaurant also takes great pride in offering vegetarian or plant-based alternatives (with dedicated menus), truly celebrating the extensive spoils of the Craggy Range kitchen garden.

Let yourself be spoiled with a visit to Craggy Range Restaurant. Between the food and wine, the views and the warm hospitality, it’s sure to be an unforgettable experience.
