As you walk down the cobbled street in Ōamaru's Heritage Precinct, keep an eye out for the iconic signage that reads, “IT’S FAMOUS BECAUSE IT’S GOOD.”While this slogan is a remnant of Lane’s Emulsions, it still fits the business that now lives here.
Harbour Street Bakery now occupies the building. New Zealanders who had Lane’s Emulsions growing up will remember that they were actually yuck. These loaves, however, are anything but.
Visit Harbour Street Bakery early in the day so that you can make your pick from their full range of bread, buns, pies, cookies and other goodies. Their speciality sourdough bread is the stars, while cronuts make for a mean morning treat and are joined by pain au chocolat, apple cinnamon turnovers, and homemade custard pastries. Whatever you choose, you’re in for a delicious treat, as everything is made from scratch with local ingredients.
