The Cake Cafe is the brainchild of mum-and-daughter team Cate and Natalie, and the two have effortlessly carved a happy little niche for themselves in this quiet Porirua neighbourhood. A compact cafe, what it lacks in size, it makes up for with an abundance of hot pink, with the eye-catching colour scheme draped over the storefront and emblazoned across the walls inside. Shimmering glass cabinets are stocked with a dazzling array of both sweet and savoury baked treats, and the tables tucked away around the corner invite you to indulge in your cupcakes and cookies in solitude.

As the name suggests, cakes are the showpiece here, from filled cupcakes (there are plenty of vegan and gluten-free options) to cheesecakes and giant, custom-made creations. And while you’re here, you might as well get a taste of the other treats as well, whether it’s a classic brownie or those tempting cookie sandwiches. Don’t sleep on the savoury stuff either - one of the Cake Cafe’s most popular items is its cheese scones, which come in an impressive range of flavours and variations, with the cheese and bacon scone a particularly hot commodity.
