Contemporary art gallery CoCA (aka the Centre of Contemporary Art) is a slick and ultra modern space in the centre of Christchurch, located next to the Christchurch Art Gallery and a stone’s throw from the Arts Centre. The modernist ‘Christchurch-style’ building has been beautifully restored and renovated post the Canterbury-earthquakes and re-opened its doors in February 2016.

CoCA, however, is much more than just an epic building and location. Inside, the two-storey gallery plays host to a revolving seasonal programme of contemporary art from local, national and international artists. The Centre is steeped in history (having been around since 1880!) and has famously shown works by a number of significant artists including Margaret Stoddart, Frances Hodgkins, W. A. Sutton and Colin McCahon.

The gallery serves you not only your daily dose of art and culture, but food and coffee too. The Allpress-run Lux Espresso takes up the downstairs entrance area and serves their famous coffee and smoothies, with a breakfast and lunch menu too, seven days a week.
