Nestled inside The Arts Centre in the central city, The Physics Room is a beautiful contemporary art space dedicated to celebrating new and innovative works in New Zealand. Having been based in central Christchurch since 1996 (moving from the Old Post Office Building at 209 Tuam Street to Worcester spot in January 2018, then settling in this latest location at the end of 2019), the gallery plays an integral role in developing critical discourse in art and culture in the city and fostering a new generation of artists.
The gallery’s programme includes exhibitions, talks, publications and performance as well as hosting a Physics Room Residency, providing temporary studio space and accommodation for visiting artists and curators in Christchurch.
A wonderful asset for the Christchurch and wider New Zealand art scene, The Physics Room is well worth a visit.
