Widely believed to be the region’s leading producer of wine, Pegasus Bay is a true gem in the North Canterbury crown and an extremely memorable place to visit. Entirely family owned and operated, the beautiful winery and restaurant are a reflection of the passion and energy the Donaldson family have poured into the Pegasus Bay empire.

The building and garden alone are enough to inspire awe. The striking castle–like terracotta building is surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens full of beautiful trees, flowers, ponds and red footbridges which add to the magic of the place.

When it comes to food, the restaurant team certainly know what they are doing. Open for lunch Thursday through to Monday, the menu is sophisticated yet approachable and has a clear commitment to local, seasonal produce – some of which is grown on site.

The restaurant terrace is perfect for a enjoying a leisurely long lunch or a few glasses of wine (or ideally, both) in the sun overlooking the stunning grounds. But as lovely as it is in the warmer months, Pegasus Bay is also a gorgeous spot on cooler days too with a large fireplace, cosy leather couches and ample seating upstairs and downstairs.

And of course, then there’s world class, sustainably produced, delicious wine – the heart of Pegasus Bay which initially began as solely a winery. Make sure you don’t leave the property without a visit to their tasting room, where you can sample and learn about some of the finest wines in New Zealand in the very place they were lovingly created.
