Any time of the day is a good time for gelato, and if you are in the vicinity of Christchurch’s Little High Eatery, we recommend making a beeline for Paleta Gelateria. You won’t find just any old ice cream at Paleta; here they serve gelato to savour and still make you want to come back for more.
Paleta Gelateria is the brainchild of Alvaro Barros and Andrea Medina, both experienced in the hospitality world, with Alvaro bringing his expertise as a chef. The mission at Paleta is simple and clear: to craft the best gelato possible using artisanal methods and the highest quality ingredients. All while respecting traditional techniques and handcrafted processes to achieve the perfect texture and depth of taste. No flavour is overly sweet, and creaminess is key.
When you first walk up to Paleta Gelateria’s counter in Little High, you’ll be immediately wowed by the display fridge containing the many different flavours of gelato. The menu is designed to be a celebration of both classic and inventive flavours, all made with real fruits, real nuts, and no artificial colours or pastes. From the rich and nutty Pistachio to the creamy Sweet Corn to the warming Cinnamon, Cream & Orange Zest to favourites like Milk Chocolate and Strawberry Sorbet. There really is no wrong choice when it comes to selecting your flavour!
Or you can take the gelato sandwich route, made with Fior di Latte gelato sandwiched between two chocolate cookies and coated in milk chocolate, perfect for on the go. There’s also the option of take-home tubs, so you can keep enjoying Paleta from the comfort of your sofa.
Paleta is open from morning until late at night, thanks to its location in Little High Eatery and is perfectly situated in the heart of Christchurch’s central city. Alvaro and Andrea take great pride in the gelato they create and want every scoop to surprise you, every visit to feel new yet comforting, and every bite to be a little moment of joy.
