Set across the ground floor of Drifter, a polished design-led hotel-hostel hybrid on Christchurch’s Lichfield Street, Rambler is a laid-back local favourite that proves a hotel bar can absolutely be a destination. There’s no generic décor or a predictable drinks list around here!

Housed in the former Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Company Building, a 1919 heritage gem, the fit-out comes courtesy of Auckland’s CTRL Space. Original features remain proudly on show, exposed concrete, steel-framed windows, lofty proportions, softened with vibrant colour, tactile materials and modern lighting. With an L-shaped bar, lounge seating, tucked-away nooks, a dedicated DJ booth and the glimmer of disco balls overhead, Rambler feels purpose-built for drinking, dining and dancing.

Open seven days from 7am until late, the bar injects round-the-clock energy into Ōtautahi’s inner city. Mornings start with coffee and pastries, moving on to a fun, flavour-packed menu of Mediterranean-inspired snacks and sharing plates from 11.30am till late. The drinks list champions local, with NZ beer on tap, great wines and a line-up of house cocktails (plus all the classics, just ask), soundtracked by a steady rotation of DJs and musicians as the evening rolls in.

Planning a special get-together? Alongside the main bar, Rambler offers two versatile event spaces: The Glasshouse and The Social Club, ideal for intimate gatherings, work parties or milestone moments.
