Everything you need to know about this store is in the name. Christchurch's Swoon is a lifestyle store and cafe that should come with a warning for those particularly sensitive to beautiful things.

Founded by Christchurch local Anneke Bedford, the store first opened its doors in the autumn of 2024 and has since been a hit with locals and visitors with an affection for homewares, fashion and art. Anneke’s vision from the beginning was to create both a retail and hospitality experience that focused on welcoming service and an energising atmosphere to upstage the online shopping alternatives. Add in the promise of great coffee and tasty treats from the cafe, and it’s an easy invitation to accept.

With a background in interiors and kitchen design, Anneke’s supreme taste shows in the elegant renovation and fitout choices through to the selection of products that grace the shelves of Swoon. There’s a clear emphasis on supporting local businesses, designers and makers, and fostering those relationships. With so many talented artists in our community, you can expect to see new and interesting products upon each return.

The racks are filled with beautiful threads from New Zealand fashion label New Lands Studio as well as Ricochet (the only store in Christchurch to supply their pieces). You’ll also find locally made ceramics, jewellery, cushion, stone tableware, blankets, and a lovely assortment of items from Aotearoa businesses Father Rabbit and Trade Aid. On top of Holly Zandbergen’s vibrant floral-inspired mural splashed across the facade, Swoon’s interior also plays host to a different artist’s work every six weeks – a wonderful initiative that not only supports the creative community, but keeps the space feeling fresh and dynamic.

Standing out in the retail sector is no simple task, but Anneke’s vision to connect the Christchurch community with the work of local talents is a winner. Consider us well and truly swooning.
