The Crossing is one of Christchurch’s greatest accomplishments post-earthquakes and has become the city centre’s premium shopping destination. With its lively mix of laneways and interlinking architecturally designed buildings, it attracts locals and visitors to the heart of the city every day to enjoy all things fashion, beauty and lifestyle.

Rebuilding the city block bounded by Lichfield, Cashel and Colombo Streets was a high priority following the earthquakes. Developed by The Carter Group and designed by Wilson & Hill Architects, The Crossing seamlessly blends Christchurch’s past and present. Heritage facades have been integrated with contemporary design and unique architectural features like the bubble screen and Paul Dibble’s ‘Sleepwalker’ sculpture add character to the laneways that weave their way through the precinct. In a nod to the city’s rich history and the people who have had an impact, Kettlewell Lane is named in honour of former city councillor and Deputy Mayor Maurice Carter, after the English town he grew up in.

When it comes to fashion at The Crossing, there has been a thoughtful curation of New Zealand designers, global brands and unique boutiques. Whether you’re looking to add staple pieces to your wardrobe, that special occasion outfit or a gift for that hard-to-buy person, you have all the resources you need at The Crossing.

If you’re partaking in some retail therapy at some point you’ll need to caffeinate and eat, luckily The Crossing is home to cosy cafes, grab-and-go lunch spots and vibrant dining options. Whether you need a quick takeaway iced latte or a more leisurely meal, you are surrounded by choices. Or if you’re looking to enjoy some well-deserved ‘me time’ there are wellness options at your fingertips at The Crossing, you don’t have to venture far for a little indulgence.

The Crossing is a vibrant destination for locals and visitors to Christchurch to enjoy. Embracing the city’s history whilst also looking to the future, from food to fitness and everything in between, this dynamic gathering place is always worth a visit. And the cherry on top is that transport options are at your fingertips, parking is a breeze with the onsite car park and the city’s public transport depot is a handy walk across the road.
