The information overload on all things health, fitness and wellness can be downright overwhelming for the average person. Everyone wants to be their best but figuring out how to get there can be tricky. Enter O-Studio.

This unique concept is the work of three locals with a wide array of experiences in the world of sport, meditation, yoga and well-being. Together they’ve created a restorative environment that is a place to work on performance in a way that applies positively to all aspects of life - not just athletics.

The team’s approach is refreshing, exciting and focused. As owner and former Crusader, Tim Bateman put it, “Performance isn’t about nailing every second of every day. For me it’s about being able to drop the stakes in the moment, being really present with my wife and kids and managing stress. There are so many mental tools we can develop to help with performance and that’s the crux of what O-Studio is - a place to work on these things together.”

At O-Studio you can relax, recover and improve in that order with flotation therapy, yoga, meditation, sauna, ice bath, massage and other recovery services. Perched above Welles Street, the space itself is rejuvenating with clean design, sweeping views of the CBD and soft, quiet spaces designed to help you re-centre before returning to the world.

In the yoga studio you’ll find plenty of space to move, friendly instructors and an array of classes that range from mellow and calming to energetic and conditioning. The float rooms, meanwhile, feature state of the art float tanks that contain 500kg of epsom salt, soothing lighting and ceiling lights that reflect Christchurch’s night sky.

In the meditation realm expect classes that go far beyond breath work to incorporate optimism, imagination, compassion, grit and confidence. O-Studio is keenly aware that being your best, or even just shooting for your best, is a continuous journey. This is featured in their name which represents balance and continuity. And because everyone is at a different place along that journey, O-Studio was designed to meet you where you are.

If it’s your first time trying yoga you can test it out from home with O-Connect, the studio’s online yoga class platform. If you’re new to flotation therapy, pop in and chat to the staff who are knowledgeable, friendly and always welcoming. If you’ve tried meditation before but found your wandering mind discouraging, don’t fret. At O-Studio you can work on these things together in a way that feels supported and relaxing.

O-Studio’s flexible memberships also reflect their approach with casual, monthly, annual and trial options. Whether you choose to focus on yoga, stick to meditation, dig into the benefits of regular float therapy or want to try a combination of things, there’s a membership option tosuit. O-Studio, at its core, is an uplifting and authentic environment geared towards working on any area of your life.
