Situated in the soulful, historic post office building, the Clarence is the only boutique hotel in downtown Tauranga. It’s a place where characterful 1900s charm meets modern comfort and luxury. Offering not just tasteful accommodation, the Clarence Hotel also houses a popular bar and restaurant paying tribute to Mediterranean food and heritage.

When Italian and Kiwi couple, Noel and Kim Cimadom, opened the Clarence Hotel, they wanted to bring to New Zealand the best of their time spent in Europe adapted to accommodate locally grown and sourced produce. They wanted to create an experience featuring the best of New Zealand contemporary food paired with tasteful European flair.

The menu at the Clarence Restaurant is heavily Mediterranean inspired, but in no way limited by its traditions. There are small plates, handmade pastas, pizza and an assortment of grilled dishes. The signature dish is the beloved Kingfish crudo. A forever crowd-pleaser, the crudo is a dish that symbolizes Clarence’s priority on fresh and quality ingredients. All of the food is intended to be nostalgic yet contemporary, unpretentious and focused on the essence of diverse New Zealand produce.

The Clarence Hotel offers the rare blend of metropolitan escape with cozy-at-home feels. It sets the scene for the perfect city retreat, with a foodie experience to remember.
