One of the best draws of Golden Bay is its gorgeous scenery, and at Drift Off Grid Glamping, you can immerse yourself in nature while staying at stylish, eco-conscious accommodation. Their approach to hospitality is to give guests more than just a place to stay, and from the location to the amenities, Drift Off Grid delivers.

Situated on an ex-forestry block being lovingly replanted in natives, Drift Off Grid’s two tents—Kanukā and Korimako— offer complementary experiences. Kanukā has panoramic ocean views over to Port Tarakohe, while Korimako overlooks the Tata Islands. Both tents also come with a super king bed, double shower, log fire and fully tiled double shower with heated floors, plus vintage soaking baths imported from Europe.

This comfort doesn’t sacrifice the sustainable ethos, either. The tents are—as the name indicates—fully off-grid, powered with solar energy and a back-up generator for rainy days. Five-metre double-glazed sliding doors ensure they’re kept toasty in the winter while still preserving the view, and mesh on the windows means when temperatures rise, the ocean breeze keeps you cool.

From Drift Off Grid, it’s easy to hop into the provided electric buggy and trundle off to Tata Beach, Wainui Falls and more. Or you can relax closer to the tent with one of the add-ons - a massage, private yoga session or sound meditation journey. Whatever you choose, you will embrace the sound of the ocean lapping at the shore at night or the morepork hooting in the trees, wake to a chorus of songbirds, or snuggle in with the pitter-patter of rain on the roof.
