If you just can’t face another treadmill, and the thought of stepping into a gym makes you feel sick—we hear you. For those who are tired of the status-quo exercise tropes, listen up: Hamilton is home to a boutique fitness studio that will shake up your next sweat sesh.

Founded by competitive pole dancer and qualified AntiGravity Fitness Instructor Laura Lockhart, HIGH ABOVE is a fitness hub like no other. Specialising in both aerial and pole classes, working out here is all about getting fit through having fun.

The pole classes cover conditioning, strength and stretch exercises informed by moves you might find in gymnastics, yoga and Pilates. Think of them as dance classes with a dash of strength and flexibility.

The aerial yoga classes take things to the next level. Literally. Here you’ll embrace your inner The Greatest Showman and use a waist hammock to support you through a sequence of exercises. Rest assured that all the equipment is from leading industry brands, so you’re in safe hands (or hammocks).

The best part is that no matter your level of fitness or experience, there’s something to suit you. Newbies can join the Level One class for a gentle and supportive intro to the art of pole and aerial fitness. As you build up skill and confidence, you’ll progress up the levels—and maybe even try your hand at the Aerial Hoop course.

If you’re more into fun than fitness, you can even book your next event, birthday or hen party with HIGH ABOVE. You’ll learn a new routine with your crew and round it out with a demo from your instructor, a glass of bubbly and some nibbles—sounds like bliss to us.
