According to Luke, owner and chief pizza maker at Spooky's Pizzeria in Hastings, pizza has long been one of the best foods in the land. And after you taste a slice at Spooky’s, we’re pretty sure you won’t have any arguments about that statement...

This neighbourhood pizzeria packs a punch both on the flavour front, and the fun fit out of the space. Embracing a retro feel with the front counter tiling and tables and chairs, there’s playful artwork on the walls and neon ghost logos around the shop. There are also garlic oil and chilli oil bottles available at each table, allowing diners to add an extra kick to their pizzas if they choose to do so.

It’s a family affair here, with Luke busy in the kitchen and his parents often popping in to help out with front-of-house duties. This includes serving up pizza by the slice from the display cabinet, where there’s always a choice between a vegetarian and a meat option. It’s the perfect on-the-go lunch solution.

Besides the individual slices, there are whole pizza pies to be ordered and a menu of regular flavours that are the constant and then specials which change out fortnightly. These can get pretty creative and often become customers' favourites, so much so that they request they are added back to the menu. What makes the pizza at Spooky’s extra special is the handmade dough, prepared on-site, and it's a process that takes three days. It just goes to show all the care and attention deliver a phenomenal end result!

Luke has big plans for the future, and to extend the offering at Spooky’s, he’s currently working on perfecting a gluten-free pizza base and also looking to add a coffee machine into the mix. So next time you have pizza on your mind, do yourself a favour and make it a slice or pie from Spooky’s.
