Need a bite to eat when you’re on the go? Looking to pack a picnic for lunch? Or, searching for somewhere that provides knockout catering? Hastings’ Long Island Delicatessen in the Municipal Building has you covered on any and all fronts.

This light and bright deli has something for everyone, and what first captures your attention as you enter is the colourful, tropical mural on the wall, perfectly illustrating the sense of fun and playfulness here. Peruse the food cabinet to see what takes your fancy—perhaps something from the salad bar or one of their ever-changing daily dishes—plus there’s a seriously impressive sweet treat range.

Long Island aims to have a mix of constantly-changing food items to keep things fresh and interesting, and they’ll always have plenty of gluten-free and vegetarian/vegan options available. There’s a good selection of refreshing cold drinks and barista coffee from Havana.

Once you have got your order, head outside and take a seat on one of the bubblegum pink Arnold Circus stools, or perch up at a leaner table. You can also pop round to Opera Lane where there’s additional seating and a real laneway feel as other eateries in the Municipal Building share this space. Or, if you really want to make a day of it, plan ahead and bring your picnic blanket, then take your food to one of the beautiful green spaces around Hastings and dine al fresco.

The deli is the spot to go to if you need catering of any kind.  Talk to the team about your needs, and they’ll box up your selection and have it ready to go when you need it. Next office morning tea shout? Sorted. You’ll also find a tempting range of condiments on the shelves, including jars and bottles filled with the team's own in-house creations.

Next time you’re strolling past the Municipal Building, be sure to stop off at Long Island Delicatessen. You just never know what might take your fancy!
