Salty's Diner

Salty’s is an experience not to be missed while visiting the Kāpiti Coast. Follow the impossible-to-ignore signage of yellow, orange and red stripes down the alleyway towards a back section of Seaview Road, walk through an a-frame entrance to the door and be ready to step into a world of its own. 

A 1970’s airstream caravan sits in pride of place in the middle of the restaurant, pumping out North End beer out of seven taps along with other beverages and creating a vibe like no other. The music is loud and the atmosphere is full of fun and good times; this is a place to gather for an epic evening over unpretentious food and a pint or two.

Fittingly, the food at Salty’s mimics American style street grub. Expect to get your fingers sticky with some legendary loaded fries, flavoursome burgers, tasty tacos and more. The quality of the produce used in creating every item on the menu is of utmost importance, and a huge portion of what is used in the kitchen comes from the kitchen garden of Long Beach, Salty’s sister restaurant and another Foodfolk enterprise. What is possible to grow on site, such as fresh herbs, is grown right here out in the courtyard.

On sunny days, a roller door opens up and invites people to spill outside, where local musicians often play some tunes as well. Fairy lights light up the courtyard, which is a popular spot on a warm evening, and when it’s a bit miserable out, and the darkness sets in, candles come out and create a warm atmosphere within the four walls. 

A bit of a hybrid between a pub and a restaurant, Salty’s is a spot where it’s effortless to hang out with friends and family. There’s a pool table, a bunch of pinball machines, great tunes and plenty of good banter to keep you entertained all night long.
